Moving back to Ireland after years away, kids are suddenly grown up and the 20-year gap in my CV. Feeling frustrated, depressed, lonely with no sense of directions… in short this is where I was a few years ago. Fortunately, I stumbled across the ad for the Moving On Programme in the local newspaper.
This was the beginning of my fantastic journey getting back to a better me. The main aim of the program was to get women back to work, but the program went way beyond this. I met other women and through sharing our stories and experiences I regained my confidence, self-esteem and of course filled in that dreadful gap in my CV.
The realization that my CV can be so much more than a list of jobs was a real eye opener. There were a lot of activities on offer – various courses, visiting Jobs/College Fairs, meditation, groundings, interview skills, and what to wear. Kerry’s Library Free Online Courses was also a great resource.
I completed Touch Typing and refreshed my Microsoft Office Word course to ensure I was up to date. I had wonderful Moving On work experience placement at An Tochar Adult Education Centre in Causeway, where I met a fantastic group of gardening enthusiasts and the office environment helped with restoring my confidence.
I have managed to secure a permanent job with the National Shared Services Office as a Clerical Officer, and I am really enjoying the role.
I am delighted to have participated in the Moving On Programme. Thank you, Lisa and Lisa.
You both had an enormous influence on my success story.
